Installing Kanzi

System requirements

Minimum system requirements for developing with Kanzi:

• Windows 7, Windows 8 (limited support for Windows XP), and OS X with Parallels Desktop for Mac 8 or Bootcamp.
• 1 GB of free disk space
• 1 GB of RAM (2 GB recommended)
• Graphics card compatible with OpenGL 2.1 or later
• For developing application logic with the Kanzi Engine API, Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (limited support for Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1, Visual Studio 2012 not supported). Development with other development environments is also possible and mingw configurations are available on request.

To build and deploy Kanzi applications for Android, you need the following:

• Java Development Environment Kit 7 (1.7) or newer (32-bit version)
• Python 2.7.x
• Python 3.x
• Scons 2.0.x
• Apache Ant 1.8.4 or newer
• Android SDK 2.3.3 or newer (Kanzi requires API level 10 or newer):
  • Android SDK Platform Tools
  • SDK Platform Android 2.3
  • SDK Platform Android 4.0.3
• Android NDK (the latest version)

If you do not have the Android build environment already set up, you can use the Kanzi Build Environment setup tool to install all the required packages. See Installing Kanzi build environment for Android.

Installing Kanzi

To use Kanzi Studio on an Apple computer with a Retina display with Parallels Desktop for Mac 8 virtualization solution, see Configuring Parallels Desktop for Mac 8 for Kanzi Studio.

To install Kanzi:

1. Download Kanzi installer from the Rightware downloads page or copy the installer file to a local disk.
   You need administrator's rights on the computer where you are installing Kanzi.
2. Run the Kanzi installer and follow the onscreen instructions.
3. After Kanzi installation is complete, you are asked whether you want to install the required software to build and deploy Kanzi applications for Android.
   If you do not want to install software required to build and deploy Kanzi applications for Android at this point, you can install it later by running the Kanzi Build Environment tool. See Installing Kanzi build environment for Android.
4. Activate your Kanzi license:
   • If you have a Kanzi product key, see Activating your Kanzi license with a product key.
   • If you have a Kanzi license file, see Activating your Kanzi license with a license file.
